Types of Patta in Assam

Annual Patta

A one-year land settlement that needs to be renewed annually by paying land revenue. Suitable for temporary land use.

Periodic Patta

A 20-year land settlement that requires payment of land revenue and local taxes each year. Provides longer-term security.

La Kheraj Patta

A land settlement that is exempt from land revenue payment. Typically granted for specific categories or purposes.

Nisfi Kheraj Patta

A land settlement that requires payment of half of the land revenue. Applicable in specific situations as per revenue rules.

Land Classification in Assam

Agricultural Land

Includes land used for cultivation such as salitoli and lahitoli. This is the most common land type in rural Assam.

Homestead Land

Land used for residential purposes like basti and residential site-I/II. Typically located in village or urban areas.

Tea Land

Land specifically used for tea cultivation. Assam is famous for its tea gardens which have special classification.

Government & Private Land

Government land includes public spaces and infrastructure. Private land is owned by individuals or organizations.
